Presenting Problems: Youth placed with Open Line have a history of problem behaviors, which may consist of:

  • Emotional / behavioral problems
  • Substance abuse
  • Problems relating to family
  • Lack of structure
  • Problems related to gang involvement
  • Multiple placement failures / AWOLS

The primary purpose of our program is to address the above mentioned problems through:

  • A highly structured program of group living
  • Regular school attendance.
  • A combination of individual and group therapy

Group Living: Each of our four, well-appointed homes, house 6 residents, 2 per bedroom. A direct care staff-to-resident ratio of 2:6 is complimented by 3 in-field Supervisors, an on-call Administrator, and two Master level Therapists. Our typical direct care staff has a BA Degree in a Behavioral Science or five or more years of experience working in a therapeutic milieu. Staff evaluate each resident daily in 25 areas including:

  • Getting up on time
  • Personal hygiene
  • Bedroom and house chores
  • Behavior at meals
  • Peer cooperation
  • Study hour participation
  • Homework completion
  • Participation in individual and group therapy

Evaluations earn points which determine weekly advancement through the level system, as well as weekly allowances and outing privileges.

Educational Component: Throughout their stay at Open Line, students are advised and encouraged regarding the importance of post high school education and are directed toward potential resources.

As of August 25, 2014, Open Line is proud to announce that we now have an on-site school! We have partnered with CHYBA (California Heritage Youth Build Academy) to provide our clients with the best possible education that also includes an on-the-job training aspect that is available to the students so they can gain job skills and training. CHYBA offers Personalized Education Plans, College and Career Preparedness, Real-World Skill Development, Academic Support and Career Exploration. For more information you can find their website at CHYBA is working closely with our Administrator to provide our program with a system that works with our program and is aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

Independent Living Skills: Open Line provides a full emersion, Independent Living Skills program for all placements which addresses nutrition, meal planning and preparation, employment, apartment hunting, money and banking, caring for an apartment, appropriate dress, and clothes shopping.

Therapeutic Component: All residents receive weekly individual and group therapy conducted by Master level therapists and interns.
Group Topics: (12 weeks each in duration)

  • Drug & Alcohol
  • Anger Management
  • Independent Living
  • Parenting

Recreation: Ping pong tables, free weights, basketball hoops, and a variety of games and portable recreation equipment grace our homes. Two of our 5 homes have built-in swimming pools. Residents also enjoy weekly outings throughout the north state. Typical outing destinations include:

  • Shasta Dam and Lake
  • Shasta Caverns
  • Whiskeytown Lake
  • Burney Falls and Lake Brittain
  • Lassen Volcanic National Park
  • Turtle Bay Museum and Arboretum
  • Sacramento River Trail
  • Caldwell Park
  • Kool April Nights (classic car show)
  • Coleman National Fish Hatchery
  • Shasta College Theater
